We are the biggest integrated aquaponic trout farm in Europe so far, growing vegetables and rearing Rainbow Trout in the most sustainable and ethical way in a bio-symbiotic system, with bees to pollinate the plants and worms to sustain the cycle of the system. We don’t use any chemicals or pesticides, so it’s naturally an organic system. As seen on BBC2 Harvest episode 3 & Terry & Masons Great British Food Trip, episode 8.
So what is Aquaponics?
Aquaponics is the combined culture of fish and plants in recirculating systems. Nutrients generated by the fish waste (manure) are absorbed by plants cultured in water. Fish provide most of the nutrients required for plant nutrition. As the aquaculture effluent flows through the cultured plant component of the recirculating system, fish waste metabolites are removed by nitrification and direct uptake by plants, thereby treating the water, which flows back to the fish rearing component for reuse. This system uses up to 95% LESS water than traditional horticulture farming.
